Which episode out of them all do you think that Pam was not at her best? There were several where she only had one-minute parts, but I am talking about episodes where it was hard to even watch her because it was not the Pam we had come to know and love or not quite what we expected. If you don't know, dig out the Pam episodes and watch. I will hold mine in reserve until others post...I hate to be the person who influences everybody prematurely.

One that comes to mind instantly is "The Shock Will Kill You" . Now, I do like this episode for my own strange reasons. But the thing that makes me uncomfortable is, NO ONE was acting normal. Not Pam, not Ralph, not Bill.
The incredible overuse of the word "lookit". And the phrase "Works for me." It would've if they hadn't kicked it to death in that ep.
But Pam seems. . .like the aliens took over her body or something. She's lacking something. She's still smart, but it's like she's on painkillers or something. A little slow maybe?

That episode and THE DEVIL IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA had her acting weird and chidish for no good reason. I have no idea why they wrote her that way...maybe because it was more the hero saves the day in Ralph?

Yeah but you would think that Ralph would be able to save the day no matter what. I wonder what kind of drugs the writers were on around this time. I think that it's partly (maybe even mostly) their fault. You can only act how someone writes your character.

True and maybe that was the other reason that people were complaining with ABC in the second season...characters were written differently. I am still unsure of her worst episode ever though.

One of them would have to be 30 SECONDS OVER LITTLE TOKYO because she was hardly in it and because she was so upset over her lilac bush. It seemed out of place for her to be so trivial, especially when the man rearranged the kitchen. Another one that comes to mind is IT'S ONLY ROCK 'N ROLL...she seemed like a complete nitwit talking to the rock star. If she is such a stellar attorney, you think she would have met and defended celebrities to SOME degree before. Those are right down there at the bottom, but I know there are others.

Well, I don't know. I'd have to defend her there and say she was right to be at least a little upset. How would you like someone to come into your house and put your stuff where you couldn't find it? I kind of like 30 SEC because she kinda reminds me of my favorite cousin in that ep. Yes, I know, I'm weird.
Yes, I wasn't all that impressed with ROCK 'N ROLL either. It was kind of boring, and excuse me, but if I'm married I don't think a rock star I used to like (USED to like) is going to affect me all that much.

Exactly...she seemed superfluous...in that episode about rock and roll and in other episodes like HEAVEN IS IN YOUR GENES and VANITY, SAYS THE PREACHER. She was in it a lot, but mainly as someone who is getting Ralph clothing or going for the cops...she never seemed very integral...which is sad, especially in the two scripts that Culp wrote...you think he would have had a higher respect for her by the end of the series.

And after she and Ralph got married, it was like she was just Ralph's wife and not Pam who had insisted on being "Part of the team". La-di-da. And yes, you would have expected MUCH MUCH more from Robert Culp. I mean, he wrote LILACS MR. MAXWELL (or did he just direct that one? Lemme go check. . .HA! He wrote AND directed LILACS), and he did fine with Pam on that one. She was level-headed, although a bit critical, but Pam could be critical sometimes.

It was a little closer to home for Pam than his third season VANITY.

Also, you have to wonder about shows like SPACE RANGER. She is so proud of her MICROWAVE cooking course, for crying out loud. How did she survive all those years on her own if she did not know how to cook? Especially growing up in small towns, I am sure she had to help to some degree at times. She became the bimbo the third season especially...maybe that is why Holly was cast as HEROINE because it was seen as the natural Pam progression or something. Of course, Pam was back on track in HEROINE for some odd reason.

Yes, quite odd that!

I just don't understand why there was such a change in her...she still had her normal acting prowess in episodes like THE ONE THE SUIT WAS MEANT FOR, but after that, her acting faltered...but probably because of how poorly she was written.

IT'S ALL DOWNHILL FROM HERE isn't such a great ep either. Not for anyone. It's. . .so far out of plot lines that it just seems ridiculous. No one is acting normal. It's fake.

True...Pam was probably the closest to normal...still jealous, but still playing off Sam and Bill to make witty comments. Not a great episode, but Pam does the best with what she was given.
