This episode is great in that Pam is on the case and helping before Bill can really sink his teeth into it. Bill knows that Tony is on the hit list, but can't find him. Ralph will only help with Pam...and that makes this episode good. The Ralph/Pam vs. Bill aspect that makes Bill work against the odds and work against his fellow agents in order to bust the TRUE bad guy.
Pam did a lot here I thought. She went down to see about Tony and the charges. She was the legal counsel for him. She helped Ralph stand up to Bill and took his side in order to paint Bill into a corner...which Ralph only realized after he told Bill he had learned from the best negotiator...stopped and THEN realized Pam was the TRUE genius.
She also went to jail to see Tony to get his version of things and to work on his defense. She was brutally honest in her opinion that she could not save Tony, but she was determined to try and save him. (I think she probably could have saved him, but at least she is modest enough to admit that she MIGHT fail). She cut straight to the chase with Bill's info on the bad guy: Making sure that her work was still to save Tony since Bill had no hard evidence. It was a great effort on her part.
This episode would have been better had Tony gone to trial and Pam was defending him. This series really lacked that moment to make Pam shine in defending or prosecuting someone. It would have been great to see...the closest we came was THE DEVIL IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA...and this episode unfortunately.
