I have loved this show since I first watched it as a youngster on reruns on different television stations. The premise about Allied prisoners of war in a German prisoner of war camp may not seem funny to some, but this was very well done...enough so that I have the four seasons already out and will get the final two after they are released.
I bring it up because of the nature of the show. The show was put on the air in the late 1960s through the early 70s. At that time, there had been some strong female characters such as Lucille Ball in I LOVE LUCY. I think this is the one element that detracted from HOGAN. There were women characters, but not enough of them or enough strong ones to make the show as acceptable by modern standards.
I think that had it been made later (or if Pam Davidson had been a known character BEFORE GAH) that Pam Davidson would have been a good underground agent. Obviously women did not fight in the war in the same way as men nor run the same risks of capture so having her as a prisoner would be ludicrous. There were some strong female Nazis, but with someone so respected and astute as Pam, I think it unlikely that the audience would have accepted her in the role of a Nazi.
Therefore, I think she would have made a wonderful underground agent, working in conjunction with Hogan and the men...as well as being quite the looker for the men to get riled up about and want to do assignments with her. Granted, her persona as a lawyer would be taken down some because what use is there for a lawyer to practice in Nazi Germany?
I think the show is remarkable on its own...and sadly, though I love Pam, I don't think she would have added THAT MUCH to the episodes besides some brilliant acting and a pretty face.
