OK, I know HD'll give me heck for this (complete with a spoon and mediochre punishments (read "Dilbert" to get the joke), but I could see Pam as a companion for the Doctor. She could be the equivalent of Romana, who was both strong and intelligent, a lot of times more so than the Doctor.
Pam could also figure out some of the strange situations the Doctor puts them in, such as going to the future or something, and wouldn't scream at every single thing. I think she'd definitely had been a good addition to the show.

To EVERY doctor or just your favorites or what? That is not very specific. And no, this is what THIS board is all about. Seeing where else Pam would fit AND why.

I said she'd fit in as a strong companion to the Doctor, (as in the TV show Doctor Who, BTW, and any of the 10 incarnations). The Doctor seems to get himself into a lot of trouble, and Pam could take charge in a lot of those cases. She'd be more than third string utility backup here. I thought too you were mentioning TV shows where the character of Pam fit in. If no, then I got my wires crossed again.

I do mean TV, but since I have never seen the DOCTOR...and you always say there were so many, I wanted to make sure if it was the entire series or just certain doctors.

Same character in all of it's run (and current run. No, I can't really explain it myself), just 10 different actors playing the one character. The Doctor regenerates, hence why they can do it. Romana, the other character I talked about, was a Time Lady herself and regenerated once during the series (saved it too with the actress they chose to play her).

I see. It is one of THOSE shows where the person never changes even though the actors do. I hate shows like that...just like a soap opera. No wonder I never watched it.

Theere's a difference, HD. The Doctor's personality and habits change with each person. Soaps try to use the same character with different actors playing the same part the same way. That's why some don't do as well. Think the closest was Randolph Mantooth's take on a character in "As the World Turns." He was pretty close to the original actor in the role. (BTW, out of interest, I've been trying to get a pic Mary Ellen Stuart in her appearance on that soap to see if she looked the same in there.

I think they should have just retired the Doctor then and had a new one take over...not be the same guy, but different. How stupid is that?

The doctor gets killed off each time the actors change and 'regenerates' into the new one. Esentially, it's a different person, but the same person. Therefore, each old Doctor disappears if you think about it. Only three epsiodes bring back original Doctors (the past lives) to work with the current version: Three, Five nad Two Doctors respectively (yes... very vanilla in their titles huh?)

It would have been simpler to either cancel the series or just make them different characters all together who took over. Similar to that HEROINE idea, you know.

It flopped, HD. Doctor Who lasted 26 seasons ('63-'89) before it's hiatus, then had the 1996 TV movie, and then was brought back last year, and is guaranteed three more seasons... after the first season. I think that shows a staying power, and one of the reasons I argue that had they done it properly, GAHeroine would've worked as a start on suit handovers with new people. Even the concept of Bill staying with Holly after the suit transfer was similar to Doctor Who... Many companions got to witness the Doctor's regeneration into another one and stayed with him for a while before leaving and being replaced with a new companion. It kept being recreated as the series went on.
What hurt it ironically is what hurt GAHeroine's choices: bad script and bad casting (though I defend Colin Baker's portrayal. He ended up with a horrible costume and it hurt his performance on top of the poorer scripts.)

I have done some more research and will concede one point here, I wouldn't want Pam to be a companion for the Ninth or Tenth Doctor. Something always happens to them, such as a device permanently installed in their forehead that opens up to reveal their brain, get stranded on a alternate Earth where the Doctor can never return, or even get killed, then brought back to life only to get stuck on a revolving starship... stuck there for who knows how long.
Only way I'd want Pam to travel with the Doctor would be his earlier regenerations where they usually ended up in a happier situation: Getting married, just moving on, etc.
