And if nothing else, if people are afraid to give out a real address, we might try and get online gift cards, although that would take the "secret" out of the Santa. I know some websites offer coupons you can purchase and then email to someone. I haven't figured out a way around knowing who sends it yet, but I am working on it. Does no one like this idea?

I think it's a real nice idea, but I would not be able to participate. Money is a bit tight... ok, it's REAL tight this year.
Unless someone didn't mind me knitting them something.
I could knit someone a little set of the jammies. LOL! Or a scarf with the symbol... Or a purse for Mac with the symbol. Or do you already have one? I bet you do...

Actually, I don't know how to knit, so no... I don't have a purse with the symbol. A scarf with they symbol sounds cool too, or even just one with red, grey, white and black in it.
I do agree, however, there might be some who are hesitant to give out their addresses and such. Something on-line would work better, as we all have e-mail addys, and if someone wanted to go handmade (such as Jo or myself (though mine depend on the recipient), and they drew the other, the could privately ask the person for their address if they don't just up and give it out. Yes... it might ruin secret santa, but that would take out some worries there.

Secret Santa doesn't have to be about money and the gifts...more about getting to know someone else to a degree through the gifts we give. MAKING something is fine and I think a lot of people would like that...not only because it is different, but so we can see if Josie REALLY knows how to sew.

[If I did that, we would ALL be able to send MyTatuo prank mail all the time. ] I was thinking we could have a list of people who wanted to join PMed to myself and Miss D...on a deadline. After that, those interested could PM us their addresses (and we would hope that you would trust US!) and we could give them to the proper Secret Santa. This will mainly depend on your trust in us and each other on the forum. After all, I figure most people who would do this would not be that worrisome. If nothing else, maybe something could be sent to work or to a drop box like I have.

That would be fine (work) because I've had a certain someone call me at work at the worst time of the night. I guess I was taking things literally again (though no, if you suggested that, I'd up and left. )

What do others think? We seem to have three people on board...what about some other regulars? We would love to have your input on why or why not to do it and how to get around the logistics problem if we do end up going ahead with this. Let us know.

I am no happy homemaker, but I have a few finished quilts and whatnot...

Those are cool Josie. I especially like the scarf (but I'm a scarf person, and wear one with my jacket even in warmer weather. I do a lot of beadwork and such, including a popular one called an idiot's delight. It's a chain necklace, and pretty neat once completed. The name of the link comes from how it looks vs. how it's done.

I'd be up for secret santa via online or snail mail.

I still think this is a feasible idea. For those of you interested, PM me and I will keep a running tally of who is interested and then names can be "drawn." Any questions?

Yes, why do they pack 10 hotdog buns but sell 8 hot dogs to a package? This question brought to you by someone who spent a little too long shooting a wreck with a diesel spill and is trying to get the silliness out of her system.

Okay...this was not as involved as I had hoped. Only one person PMed me and said that they were interested. I understand that money is tight (because you would still have to mail something...even if you made it) and that it was not brought up in time to consider it more fully. However, now that you all of heard the idea, be thinking about ways to implement it for next year and that way we have all year to work towards it and hopefully have more members involved. And for all of you who did not want to participate: Bah Humbug.

It's not a bah humbug as much as a time/money thing.
I still haven't put up my tree... and don't know if I will have time before like the 20th. So making something this year is, well, not on my calendar...
How about a secret Valentine?
