I have to admit the costume is one of the best there, (and in this the only thing that could top it was if Pam wore the magician helper's outfit.) I actually love the episode, because of the magic involved. I mean, it really was Katt doing the stunt (in fact, one of the three eps I remembered exactly upon rewatching 25 years later). I also like the spookiness of the episode. Yes... it's not as high as other episodes, but just the right amount. Pam is terrific in this too as someone who tries to figure out what's going on, such as the shrine, etc., and is genuinely worried about Ralph when he's doing the trick. The only bit that was silly was the scream, but since Bill screams too, it's not as bad.

I don't think the magician's helper would be a good fit. She was BORN to wear her costume...trust me.

True.. I have to admit the low cut aspect of it worked well on her, as did the outfit in "Devil in the Deep Blue Sea." She could wear just about everything and look good in it. (you wouldn't see a lot of women wear some of the outfits she did because they're too baggy. But I think that made Pam even more attactive (from a male point of view), because even with the outfits, she made them work.

From CARLINI: Pam: You didn't say "abra cadabra." I did, but my magic isn't good enough to get her here.

The only outfit that she did not look as good in is the one where they were at the church following Blanchert. ' What hurt that costume was the purple tights I think. The blouse was perfect for her and the skirt worked for 1983, but the tights are silly and make her look more like a little girl than a strong attorney. The best one she wears in this story is by far the Halloween outfit. But then again, this is one of my favorites from the entire series.

Ok guys, here is the old lady of GAH speaking...
I lived through the 80s. I was a young punk in NYC, so I didn't wear that kind of stuff, but believe me, that was normal. Purple tights... bad hair...
trust me... this didn't look silly back then.

I agree. Came from the decade of zippers at the ankles of pants, hypercolor shirts and now retro (which have to say looks better on me than plain jane stuff). Even colored tights are back. When I won the $50 card for karaoke, I've already decided what I'd do with it. One was get a fossil animated watch (we have an outlet, which is by far reasonable) and the rest update my clothes. Most of my stuff is either too big (was a size 14 two years ago, now an 8), or out of date to not be out of date fasionable. But back OT (so HD doesn't kid me), I thought Pam did a good job overall in the ep too. Could've done more, but what ep wasn't that way.

Okay, you have all been patient while I drooled over Pam in her Halloween costume, but I thought I would stop and wipe it off my chin and give you my episode critique from that Pam focus. Pam started off the episode right: She was making fun of Ralph, playing cute, and helping Bill with his dilemma about the will. She helped put the exposition out there that Bill was on the case before with Carlini. She helps Bill overcome his shock enough to throw out his scenario that includes the Counselor and the jammies. (Even though she does say that Bill was involved with the death of Carlini rather than the case of the death of Carlini--too blatant an error...Lupo must have had a writing cramp on the brain or something). At the Carlini mansion, Pam is the one who is looked too as the expert when the lawyers from the other firm do not show. She states how they are a reputable firm and that they are probably just running late. Very soothing to the magicians while Ralph and Bill go poke around. The next day at the FBI, Pam comes up Aces in two ways: First, SHE is the one who tracked down the fact that Carlini never had a will...probably from her lawyer connections that she utilizes for Bill. Second, she makes sense of the Stoppard and Blanchert relationship. Bill and Ralph are puzzled as to why they would be talking to one another, but Pam remembers the history of the two and Carlini and quickly fills in the blanks...not that she gets much credit for it. On the way to Toby's place, Pam keeps her eyes up on the sky to find Ralph to help zero Bill in. Then, when they get there, Pam rushes to call Toby an ambulance without being told too...knowing that she is the one most likely to care about his well-being as Bill is after the bad guy and Ralph is trying to get vibes. In the final element of the episode, it is nice that Pam worries about Ralph, but it IS a little overdone. He DOES have the suit on...and if she was THAT worried, she would have had him try the suit underwater power sooner...definitely before he went on stage. Another thing: Why didn't she chase Carlini? She is the only one of the three who didn't run after Carlini when he attempted to kill Ralph. Was she THAT enthralled with the show or something? Overall, I think the episode is good and Pam is utilized a lot more...both by the others and by her own accord. Granted, the great outfits she wears in this episode help, but it is not one of my favorite Pam episodes overall. A lot of it just seemed too forced and too hokey.

Only thing I can think of why Pam didn't go and chase Carlini was that she was helping Stoppard with crowd control so no one accidentally went in that hallway trying to get out. After all, when Ralph busted open the water tank, he did create a safety hazard, not to mention it is a scary enough event to make people scatter.
Personally, that's the way I see it, as more than likely, if Pam was part of the chase, Carlini would've attacked her probably and she'd probably ended up KO'd, Carlini would be ready to knife her, and the rest of the stuff still'd happened. While that could've been a scenario if Culp decided to skip the entire thing (regardless of the double), it'd put Pam in the defenseless/needs to be saved by Ralph scenario again. This way, she at least has (at least in mind) a potential strong bit going on.
I also totally agree about Pam being overly worried about Ralph being able to/not being able to hold his breath under water. She should've had him test it in the bathtub just in case, as if he had problems, she could get him out and/or know how long he could safely hold his breath under water with the suit. I mean, while there's always a reasonable fear of watching someone they love do something potentially fatal, Pam should know that the suit would do everything in its power to keep Ralph alive, as he is the wearer and in a way its protection.

I agree that she was not well written in that regard. As for Pam helping Stoppard, that is not the case. Afterall, Ralph reappears by her back stage and talks to her for a moment...it is obvious that she does not give a DAMN about the people out in the audience. Most are probably pretty calm anyway...they ARE at a magic show.

I'm wondering if you've watched David Copperfield and some of his tricks. His shows were never that calm. Besides, we don't know if Pam had ended up going to the main floor to talk to Stoppard after Ralph's escape. Yes... Pam did seem to get kidnapped a lot... not to mention most of the time seemingly willing. She rarely if ever tried hard to escape. I understand they didn't want to probably have her get harmed, but makes her weaker than she really was.
